Malaysia Migrant Money Trail

“Malaysia is regarded as a haven for migrants” – this is the statement of Malaysia Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) Secretary-General Hashim, which the group seeks to challenge and investigate with their capstone project, “Malaysia Migrant Money Trail”. Through a multi-stakeholder perspective on the underlying causes, contributing elements, and potential solutions, this project provides extensive research and in-depth analysis of the increasing cases of human trafficking and abusive detention of migrants and refugees in both Malaysia and Indonesia. It reveals that human trafficking is, in fact, a major and prevalent issue that spreads like an “infectious disease” throughout Malaysia and, in turn, Southeast Asia. With this, should Malaysia essentially be considered a safe place for migrant workers?
