Language Heritage in Southeast Asia

Flavours of Southeast Asian Languages — Shaved Ice Allegory

See here for the accompanying transcript to the video:

"Flavors of Southeast Asian Languages - Shaved Ice Allegory" uses different shaved ice recipes across South East Asia as a creative allegory on how trade, colonization, and immigration has shaped South East Asian languages. Each unique ingredient represents a specific aspect of the region's history, from colonialism and trade, to religion. Notably, all the recipes for shaved ice in SEA include palm sugar and rose syrup -- allegoric for trade and religion's influence on local languages -- speaking to a shared history across the entire region. Evidently, SEA embodies unity in diversity.
