Erasure of Youth Voices

What We Cannot Say

“What We Cannot Say” is a research paper that confronts the realities of restricted freedom of speech in Southeast Asia. It examines the consequences of media suppression through an extensive literature review while also evaluating possible strategies for resistance and reform. Notably bridging analysis with storytelling, the paper culminates in a literary chronicle of Southeast Asian journalists who find ways to make their voices heard despite being censored. By portraying how censorship creeps in through subtle omissions and vague reports, the story makes tangible what research alone cannot --- it reveals that silence itself becomes the most powerful evidence of repression. At the centre of it all is the pressing question: in societies where words are controlled, how can voices for change still break through?
